History

The Great Basin Scottish Highland Games started as an idea with no name by our very own Matt and Amy Hobbs. Matt would hold mini highland events at big camp trips and little throwing sessions in his front yard. A few of us were invited to dinner at their home and after some talk around the dinner table, we officially became Northern Nevada Throwing Company, the name of the event you all know and love came later on. It was a rocky and scary start with our first games slated to be held smack in the middle of the Covid epidemic; it was with heavy hearts we delayed a year. Our first year, 2022, was a small one day event that drew about 500 people and we were stoked! 2023 was two days and we more than doubled that number. Each year we’ve learned and grown and 2024 is shaping up to be even more amazing than we expected!
